Self Care Leave

Self Care Leave

Permanent and fixed-term employees can access an amount of paid Self-Care Leave per financial
year, depending on their contracted working hours, to be used for the purpose of taking some time to
undertake activities that proactively support their mental health – whatever that may look like.

Employees who typically work a total of 30 hours or more per week are entitled to a maximum of one paid Self-Care Leave day every two calendar months. The periods of accrual are July – August, September – October, November – December, January – February, March – April and May – June.

Employees who typically work less than 30 hours per week are entitled to a maximum of one paid
Self-Care Leave day every four calendar months. The periods of accrual are July – October, November – February, March – June.

Self-Care Leave:

  • Does not accrue and lapses every two months for those working 30+ hours and every four
months for those working less than 30 hours per week; and

  • Is not intended to extend periods of existing leave. This means that it can’t be taken in
conjunction with any other leave type or with public holidays, even if separated by a weekend.
